Good news for sports enthusiasts – the city of Calgary is opening more recreational facilities this month, including eight Indoor artificial turf fields at the Calgary Football Center.
Since several facilities opened in early February, the city has seen high demand from sports groups and individuals looking to book one-to-one tuition or smaller sports training activities.
This demand led to the decision to open additional locations from this week. Please note that all facilities must be booked in advance.
Previously, six arenas and four pools were reopened for bookings, and as of February 25, four additional sheets of ice and eight Indoor artificial turf fields will be available.
Recreational facilities can only be booked for individual sports training with a certified or paid trainer or for limited group training activities for smaller sports (under 18 years of age).
Smaller sports training can be carried out for a maximum of 10 people per group, including participants, trainers and trainers.
Currently, websites cannot be used for games, league games, swimming lessons, registered programs, individual workouts, or group exercises.
Public indoor skating, public swimming, and group fitness activities are part of later stages in the provincial government’s plan to reopen.
Additional Calgary City recreational facilities available for booking starting this week include:
- Optimist and George Blundun Arenas (two sheets of ice) – 5020 26th Avenue SW
- Stew Hendry & Henry Viney Arenas (two sheets of ice) – 814 13th Avenue NE
- Calgary Soccer Center (eight artificial turf fields) – 7000 48th Street SE
The city will consider opening additional locations as needed.
The decision to reopen recreational facilities is based on several factors including demand for solitary and limited minor sporting activities, compliance with public health regulations, and the ability to recruit staff.
Bookings for arenas and pools can be made online. The availability of the football center can be checked online. Please send booking inquiries to [email protected] or 403-268-3800.
All other recreational facilities operated by the city, including weight rooms, will remain closed until further notice.
