What would you say if I told you that there is an organic, fair, direct, eco-social, rainforest certified, gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free, GMO-free, vegan and alcohol-free alternative? Not taste like sawdust – brewed here in Calgary?
We introduce Bar Star Book, the 2-person premium kombucha operation under the management of Boss book Suzanne Mills, the self-proclaimed former bar star who has made it her business to make you sober and healthy and sexy. Bar Star Book was founded in February 2019 and promotes gut health, mental health and wellbeing. At the same time, it offers a tasty, alcohol-free alternative with additional nutrients and health benefits. According to Suzanne, “There are more neurons in the intestine than in the spinal cord … Your intestines are probably filled with bad insects, so you need the special ingredients, probiotics, enzymes and vitamins in our premium kombucha. Your gut is your second brain and the place where your immune system lives. When your gut bacteria are out of whack, it not only directly affects your physical condition, but also your mood, focus, and stress levels. ”
Be it a personal preference, a driving situation, recovery, or some other inexplicable possibility, there are many reasons someone might choose not to drink on an evening. However, the availability of non-alcoholic alternatives is often not attractive, especially in a city with a booming craft beer industry. “As a non-drinker, you only have limited options,” says Suzanne, “pop, coffee or a children’s menu. We wanted to create an integrative, health-conscious, low-sugar alternative that normalizes not drinking in a social environment. ”
The Star Buch bar offers a variety of flavors, each with their own high-quality organic ingredients, designed to promote general health and well-being. “It’s not just a standard hippie kombucha brand,” says Suzanne. So every single taste has an additional health benefit. ”
For example the original Basic bookWith organic black tea, green tea, lime juice, ginger and spearmint, the general intestinal upset is gently soothed. The Book slap is a combination of organic pineapple, lemongrass and cayenne pepper, which aims at detoxification and metabolic function. The Namaste book With organic blueberry juice, elderberries, schisandra berries and rhodiola roots to strengthen the immune function and promote relaxation. All of these taste great – it’s the adult equivalent of hiding vegetables in your child’s Mac & Cheese so they can get the nutrients they need without even knowing it.
In addition to the Bar Star Book range of delicious, health-conscious flavors, they also offer seasonal specialty brews to support local charities focused on improving mental health and wellbeing in all its forms. 100% of the profits from each specialty brew are donated to charities across Calgary. Previous charitable campaigns include Fall 2019 Crazy book brew in support of the Alberta Adolescent Recovery Center and Spring 2020 Komboujee Brew, That grossed nearly $ 1,500 for Cerebral Palsy Kids & Families. “We purposely support small local organizations,” says Suzanne. In this economy in particular, the little ones really have problems and can benefit most from our contributions. ”
Bar Star Buch is currently raising funds for Tiny Footprints Pregnancy and Infant Loss and will announce their nonprofit partner for spring 2021 in March.
Right now you can find Bar Star Book in single serving bottles at Trolley 5 on May 17thth Ave and On-Tap at Common Bond Bar on Stephen Ave, plus a number of organic markets across town. It is also available to Work Nicer members in various work areas in Calgary and Edmonton.
