Calgary man killed in paraglider crash near Elbow Falls

CALGARY – A Calgary man was killed Tuesday in a paragliding accident near Elbow Falls in Kananaskis Country west of town.

The police were called about a missing paraglider and, with the help of Kananaskis rescue services, found a 56-year-old deceased.

“Right from the start, the police believed that the victim got stuck in a tree during his descent and then fell a little,” the police said in a release.

The man’s vehicle was in the Elbow Falls parking lot and the police aren’t sure where he picked up.

RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff said people are encouraged to have a friend with them when engaging in risky backcountry activities.

“We want them to have at least a buddy or someone close so that we can have emergency services there if things go wrong,” he said.
