TORONTO, January 18, 2021 / CNW / – To celebrate the extraordinary work of journalists and news organizations across the country and to provide career growth opportunities for aspiring journalists, the Canadian Journalism Foundation (CJF) is now accepting contributions to its 2021 Awards and Scholarship Program. The deadline for all submissions is 19th of February.
“The global pandemic has highlighted the importance of journalism and journalists serving Canadians with trusted news and information,” said the chairman of the CJF Kathy English. “While COVID-19 has challenged journalists in unprecedented ways, it has also opened up new opportunities for journalistic excellence that we look forward to celebrating.
“The CJF is particularly excited this year to expand its range of awards with the new Black Journalism Fellowship Program, the new CJF Award for reporting on climate solutions and the CJF-Facebook Journalism Project Digital News Innovation Award.”
The prizes that can be submitted now are:
CJF Black Journalism Fellowship Program
This new program, which offers three separate awards, aims to boost blacks’ voices, improve coverage of black topics in the news, and nurture future black media leaders by recruiting black journalists with an experience of one to five Years of unique opportunities Hosted offers for six months in a CBC / Radio-Canada (English or French) or CTV News newsroom across the country. - CJF-CBC / Radio-Canada Black Journalism Fellowship;
- CJF-CBC / Radio-Canada grant for black women journalism; and
- CJF-CTV News Black Journalism Fellowship.

CJF Award for Climate Solutions Reporting
This new award, the one $ 10,000 Cash award, recognizes excellence in reporting what is being done in Canada and beyond, to address the effects and threats of climate change – the strategies, practices and people that could potentially be part of the solution to this global crisis. CJF-Facebook journalism project Digital News Innovation Award
This new award recognizes innovations in digital media that are proven to improve the quality of digital journalism. The winning organization will receive a $ 10,000 Price. Read the details about the award.
CJF Jackman Award for Outstanding Journalistic Achievement
This two-part award honors Canadian news organizations whose journalism initiates profound and positive changes in the community they serve. There are two winners: large and small media categories. CJF Lifetime Achievement Award

The Landsberg Award
Working with the Canadian Women’s Foundation, this award recognizes a journalist who does exceptional research, analysis, and writing on issues of equality for women through a gender lens $ 5,000 Price. Read the details about the award.
CJF-CBC Fellowships in Indigenous Journalism
Two early career indigenous journalists have the opportunity to research interesting topics while spending a month with the CBC News Indigenous Unit Winnipeg.
