The Calgary Public Library is launching a new program to put books in the hands of children

CALGARY – The Calgary Public Library is sending free books to families in the community as part of a new fundraiser.

My First Bookshelf is a new program launched by the Calgary Public Library in partnership with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to help fill a child’s bookshelf at home and promote family reading.

According to the library’s website, children from birth through the age of five can get a free, personalized book each month to keep.

Eligible families are identified by zip code and you must be a library member to register.

The library will register 2,000 children in the first year. The program is set to expand to include almost 90,000 children under five in Calgary.

If your child does not have a library membership, sign up online for free. You can find more information about donations here.
