Just like the rest of us, the city of Calgary is taking a much-needed break this holiday season.
A news release from the city lists the services that are either closed or run at reduced hours during the holidays, including public transportation, car pick-up, and municipal landfills, to name a few.
The city also announced that it will offer free transit service to everyone on Christmas Day in case you forget that cranberry sauce and need to go to the store.
This is what the transit times will look like in the coming week:
Monday, December 21: The beginning of the winter service changes
Friday, December 25th: Free service all day! The trains run every 15 minutes and every 30 minutes from 10:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. during the day. The bus connections on routes 1, 3, 8, 9, 14, 38, 43, 100, 300, 301, 302, MAX Orange, MAX Yellow, MAX Teal and MAX Purple run every 20 to 45 minutes
Saturday, December 26th: Operation at Sunday level
Thursday, December 31: Operation on regular weekdays
Friday, January 1st: Operation at Sunday level
Monday, January 11th: Operation on regular weekdays
Parking is free on Friday, December 25th, Saturday, December 26th, and Friday, January 1st, in all Calgary Parking Authority parking lots and parkades.
New Year fireworks have been canceled by the city due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but they will host online fireworks to usher in the new year.
The shopping cart collection will end on Friday, December 25th and Friday, January 1st. Those who normally have their arts picked up on these days will instead pick them up on the following Mondays.
All Calgary landfills will be closed on December 25th, December 27th, January 1st and January 3rd, but will be open on December 26th and January 2nd.
